Professor Sir Colin Blakemore PhD FIBiol FMedSci FRS is the former Chief Executive of the British Medical Research Council (MRC). Waynflete Professor of Neuroscience and Philosophy in the School of Advanced Study, University of London and Emeritus Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. Director of the Oxford Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience. Author of The Mind Machine, Mechanics of the Mind and Vision: Coding and Efficiency.
The Observer newspaper once referred to him as ‘One of the most powerful scientists in the UK’. He has an illustrious research career and much of his early work was focused on vision and its adaptive changes after birth. Much of his recent work has been devoted to neuroplasticity (the ability for the brain to adapt, change and even grow) and he has published hundreds of papers in peer reviewed journals on this subject
Sir Colin sits on the scientific board of the Beckley Foundation a United Nations accredited NGO and think tank with two objectives. Firstly, to raise the need for global drug policy reform and secondly evaluate and conduct research on non-standard therapies in particular Psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, Cannabinoids, Ayahuasca/DMT as well as research on meditation.
The Beckley Foundation have worked with the top-ranking scientific institutions worldwide including Imperial College and University College London, Exeter, Maastricht, Sant Pau and Brazil. The Beckley Foundation are lucky to have such a powerhouse as Sir Colin on their scientific board and we await further publications from their collaborations.
